The final year of elementary school is a critical one. Students will continue to develop skills that will enable them to be successufl in their educational careers. Hopefully these skills will offer a smooth transition to middle school.
As IB students, fifth graders participate in six units of inquiry throughout the year. In the Explorer Unit students will gain an understanding of the effect European expansion had on the world. The Electricity Unit provides hands-on activities to develop an awareness of atomic structures and circuits. Attending Young Ameritowne allows fifth graders an opportunity to become "real-life" citizens of a working town. Students get the chance to evaluate the way others and themselves express their values in the Empathy and Respect Unit. Reflection on revolutions throughout history allows students to compare and contrast the United States with other countires in our Revolutions Unit. PYP culminates with the Exhibition where students demonstrate that they have become global citizens, conscious of their roles and responsibilities.
Each year brings exciting new adventures to the fifth grade. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
