 Gifted and Talented ProgramMinimize

Littleton Public Schools and Eugene Field Elementary place high value on educational opportunities that enable each student to demonstrate continuous improvement of academic achievement and to develop fully according to his or her potential. The Gifted and Talented Program in LPS serves as a vehicle for this instructional service.

Each school has a G/T Program and Facilitator allowing high ability and gifted learners to stay at and be served at their home school (or school of choice) through an Instructional based model with a very wide range of service options. Field's staff and parent community funds a full time Facilitator to serve the wide range of student's needs at Field and to extend services to not just formally identified students but other high ability and motivated learners as well. This also allows for easier collaboration with and blending of all the different instructional programs at Field.

At Eugene Field Elementary this is primarily achieved through the school's flexible small group instructional literacy block model and flexible grouping with collaboration and co-teaching for math instruction combined with the International Baccalaureate's inquiry approach to learning in all subject areas. Services can be delivered either by the G/T Facilitator or a trained classroom teacher or paraprofessional with consultation from the facilitator. Flexible grouping and/or curriculum service and differentiation decisions for high ability students are based on their instructional needs in each subject area. A wide range of assessent tools are used to make those decisions and involve the student, parents, and staff. This instructional model actively supports the IB Programme and involves teaching the IB Planners and working towards the fifth grade Exhibition.

The G/T Facilitator also provides support for the social/emotional and affective needs of G/T students. The IB Attitudes and Profile help teachers and students actively and effectively address these needs.

The G/T program also supports and sponsors extended opportunities for all students at Field. These vary from year to year and currently include Chess Club, Art Club, Math Club (Math Olympiads and other math contests), and Storytelling for Primary Kids.
